The Blue of Distance in the Exhibition Souvenir at WVTF with New City Arts, July 2014
This series of mixed media works are a counter-atlas created using found maps and different colors of blue (a reference to Yves Klein and his search for the perfect color blue). The places described in the maps are each significant to me and in painting on them I am simultaneously revisiting my memory of the place and rendering the map illegible. As I erase the reality of the place, through the drawn lines I create something else, a different dimension, much as memory implies imagination, alteration and erasure.
